Back to work – welcome to Virgo Season!

On the 23rd of August, the Sun moved from fun-loving and extrovert Leo to hard-working and humble Virgo and will stay there till the 22nd of September.

In the Northern Hemisphere this period marks the end of the summer vacation, when children and adults are going back to their duties, to school and work. The symbol of Virgo is the Virgin (or temple virgin in the ancient world), dedicated to the deity. Today it’s best translated as someone who has a strong devotion to practical service. The Virgin is usually depicted holding a sheaf of wheat as she is the one overseeing the harvest and the sorting of the wheat from the chaff.

Virgo is an Earth sign hence likes to be useful and efficient. Virgo does what has to be done without fanfare. She learned the lesson of humility from Leo’s example and works on putting its talents and creative abilities into practical material use. Virgo is also a mutable sign and she uses her adaptability and refining skills to planning and organization.

Virgo shares its planetary ruler, Mercury, with Gemini, so information, data and communication are important for both signs. Gemini gathers information on diverse topics and uses it to make connections with others. Virgo does not only collect information but also analyzes it and his intentions with it are also different: she wants to make something practical and useful out of all the collected data. She has a flair for managing and categorizing information, and presenting it in useable ways, such as databases.

For Virgos, mind and body are linked, therefore regular exercise and healthy eating is important to maintain an effective mind-body balance and to handle stress. They are very good at helping people create structures that help them sustain good habits as well. They are usually also very neat and prefer orderly environment.

Their analytical skills, discriminative capability, dexterity, willingness to work hard and the desire to be of service makes them excellent analysts, researchers, teachers, doctors, nurses, vets, critics, nutritionists, yoga teachers and craftsmen.

They are often cautious with their heart and rather slow to fall in love. Therefore it is often up to the potential partner to take the initiative and start things off. They prefer honesty and openness in relationship and they are devoted and loyal. Virgos show their love and affection through doing acts of service – it comes from their heart and they don’t expect anything in return.

As with all signs, Virgo’s characteristics can also manifest in uneasy ways. They can overthink things which can lead to anxiety. They can become overly critical and judgemental towards themselves and others. Virgos are perfectionists and the world (and people) are rarely perfect, hence they can develop strong discontent in life or a negative fatalistic worldview. It is often difficult for Virgos to have fun, enjoy life,  and just feel happy or at least content.

In the life areas that Virgo is ruling in your chart, you seek to establish order and method and you focus on developing practical skills. You might also lack some natural self-confidence in these areas.
