Libra season and the Autumn Equinox

This is my last of the 12 articles which introduces the different signs as the Sun travels through them during a year.

Every year, around the 22nd of September, the Sun moves from pragmatic and perfectionist Virgo into elegant and charming Libra. This event marks also the Autumn Equinox and the end of the summer in the Northern Hemisphere (and the Spring Equinox and the end of winter in the Southern Hemisphere).

Libra is the only sign in the zodiac that have an inanimate object as symbol, the scales. The lack of the animal (or human) element gives a hint about its strongly civilized nature. Fairness and equality is the main concern of this sign, therefore it is also associated with law and social justice.

Libra is a positive cardinal air sign which means it is ready to take action and initiate new things (cardinality) in order to maintain balance in relationships (air element). Libra is excellent in weighing things up, to understand everybody’s viewpoint and to find a compromise which is acceptable for everyone. Hence Librans are born to be the strategist, the mediator, the peacemaker and the bridge-builder. They hate to upset anyone or engage in conflict, they usually win people over with grace and charm, hence they are perfect for the field of diplomacy and PR.

The planetary ruler of Libra is Venus, the planet of love and beauty. People with strong Libran energy usually have excellent taste and they have the unique talent to effortlessly express beauty, courtesy, elegance, refinement and charm. So it is not surprising that the arts are strongly associated with Libra as you can find plenty of gifted designers, artists, musicians or fashion experts among them.

Being an air sign (need for connection) and having Venus as a ruler, Librans have a very strong need for relationship. They need the motivating presence of a partner in order to bring out the best of themselves. Loneliness and isolation can harm their positive spirit.

Popular belief is that Libra is about love, but it is not really true. Libra is about relationship. Libra’s life purpose is to experience a harmonious relationship that is based on mutuality, reciprocity, unity and compromise. Hence marriage and marital life is usually a focus point for Librans.

As with all signs, Libra’s characteristics can be expressed in a rather negative or destructive ways. The need for relationship and peace might lead them to over-compromise and to cling to unhealthy partnerships where there is an obvious imbalance or power. Their conflict-avoidant nature can drive them to insincerity, although their motivation is usually to keep the peace and make things look good. Indecisiveness is another potential negative trait of Libra, as they want to do right by everyone, consider everybody’s interest and apply utmost fairness, this does not help their ability to decide or make choices.

If you have planets in Libra in your chart, those will express themselves with polite refinement and strong consideration of others.  The Libran area of your chart will the area of your life where you bring elegance, tact and diplomacy and where you can work best in partnership.
