BIG changes coming: Saturn in Pisces – 2023 March forecast Part 1/3

Normally I don’t write monthly forecasts, but now I have to make an exception. March is by far the most exciting and most significant month of 2023 from an astrological point of view. There is so much happening, that I had hard time figuring out how to organize my thoughts as it cannot fit into one article. I see 3 big events coming up, which all deserve a separate post, hence I decided to write a trilogy. This first part will mainly describe Saturn’s ingress into Pisces, the second will look into the Spring Equinox (the Astrological New Year) and in the final part I will collect my thoughts on Pluto’s shift into Aquarius.

The month of March always has a promise of a New Start, probably because in the Northern Hemisphere it is the time when we say goodbye to Winter and welcome Spring. It is not different this year either, but on top of the Spring Equinox, we have other, very rare events which bring the promise of a Big Change, the beginning of a new era.

On March 7, 2023 Saturn, the planet of time and boundaries moves into the sign of Pisces and will remain there until February 14, 2026. Let’s not forget that Neptune (the modern ruler of Pisces with similar archetype) is already in Pisces, so there is a double Pisces effect on Saturn. The two planets will co-exist in Pisces till 2026 and in Aries till 2028.

After spending 6 comfortable years in its ’home’ signs of Capricorn (2017-2020) and Aquarius (2020-2023), Saturn is now moving into the ’enemy territory’ of Pisces. The archetypes of Saturn and Pisces are basically polar opposites which are difficult to reconcile. Saturn symbolizes rigidity, control, structure and limitations, Pisces is all about emotions, dreams, fluidity, boundlessness and transcendence.

So what themes will this period highlight?

Disillusionment on a grand scale

Old structures and rules are often being questioned during Saturn in Pisces period. We can expect further economical, political and social challenges as the very concept of their operation will crumble and it will take some time till we see how a potential new era could look like.

The illusion of constant or even endless economic growth which is the base of the „Western culture” will be destroyed by the increasing scarcity of natural resources (especially water, gas and oil). This could go to a level where severe restrictions will be applied in the consumption of these commodities, impacting the general comfort of our everyday life.

We will be also asked to be more aware of the connectedness of all life, to nature and to the universe. We need to reconsider our understanding on our boundaries and responsibility as humans, as the human race.

Dissolution of boundaries

As we are in times of big shifts and changes, the reference points of our lives become elusive and we might start to feel that our concept of reality becomes slippery. The trend of organized dezinformation and „fake news” will continue so finding a solid foundation, an objective starting point will be difficult. This can bring a lot of anxiety, insecurity and increasing fear of chaos and of losing control in different areas of our life.

The archetypes of Saturn (rules, restrictions, control) and Neptune (water, ocean, fluidity) will be bound together in the coming 5 years, so we can expect changes in hydropolitics, increased amount of water related issues (draughts and floods), but also conflicts over international territorial waters.

Religion in crisis

Saturn in Pisces is strongly related to Christianity through the theme of sacrifice and self-discipline. Saturn is the planet of structure and responsibility, and its transit into Pisces can bring a heightened sense of responsibility in one’s personal and spiritual life. This may align with the Christian teachings of self-control and the importance of living a life dedicated to serving others.

We might see some restructuring within the Christian church or some significant changes in its rules and organizational principles. It would not be surprising to experience a notable decline in its popularity and a decline of active religious practitioners.

Increased importance of communities and service

The transit may bring a greater focus on the role of community and its power to successfully address social and environmental issues. People might feel more encouraged to come together and work towards common goals and form local communities united under a shared purpose.

“It takes a village to raise a child” might be a phrase and idea that we will see re-occurring in the coming 3 to 5 years.

Service is another common theme of Saturn in Pisces although from different motivation: Saturn is willing to be at service out of its strong sense of responsibility, while Pisces does that driven by compassion and willingness to sacrifice personal objectives.

Spiritual discipline and creative coping

A potential personal response to the increasing uncertainty and confusion in the outside world is to turn inwards and do inner soul work. This is an excellent time to transcend our limitations and find inner peace by letting go of the past, our unrealistic expectations and find our own faith in life.

Coping through creative self-expression is also a healthy response to turbulent times, but we can also commit to some serious spiritual study or set up a yoga or meditation routine.

In summary, Saturn moving into the sign of Pisces marks a period of growth and transformation, both on an individual and collective level. This transit brings a focus on spirituality, emotions, creativity, and responsibility, and may encourage individuals and societies to address important issues and work towards meaningful change.

On a personal level it can bring disillusionment and a sense of being lost. Not seeing the boundaries between reality and imagination, between truth and lie, an urge to escape from the materialistic world might be common themes of these times.

It is more important now than ever to take care of our mental well-being, to disconnect from things and people which don’t serve us and to maintain good boundaries. Focus on our inner world, develop our own personal faith, find a cause worth to be committed to without losing yourself, are all possible constructive responses to the current quality of time.
